Hey guys, sorry it's taken a while for me to get to a computer!
So far this trip has been everything i hoped for!! The first week was pretty dull- all urban areas with the odd section through parks etc. I stayed in motels until i made it through to Hope (western edge of the Rocky Mountains). There i had to take a few days off to wait for the local store to open so i could stock up on camping supplies. From Hope i tried to head north east to Brookmere where i was going to cut south east to Princeton. However, i made it about 18km through deep snow and up some bloody big cliffs (which i almost died on- sorry mum!) before i made camp for the first night.... or so i thought. i'd ended up on the wrong side of the river earlier that day and had tried to cross back, but ended up back on the same shore with frozen feet- bad idea! As i was about to set up my tent i noticed a bench........ slightly odd thing to find in the middle of nowhere i thought? as i walked over a small ridge i saw a small group of houses that weren't on the map, so i went over to ask if they'd mind me setting up my tent near by. The landowner was a real nice guy who offered me a caravan instead of a tent for the night. That night he introduced me to another guy, and the two of them decided that me carrying on north was a bad idea- the weather was due to get worse along with the terrain. I stayed the next day trying to figure on another route and eventually decided to head along side highway 3 which runs south east from Hope to Manning park where i was put up by the local road salters. These guys where funny as hell- they filled me with vodka and gave me a bed. I was a little unsure about the guys that are supposed to keep the roads safe getting tanked up on a 40% bottle of Russia's finest but hey, they gave me vodka so i wasn't asking too many questions!
From there route 3 heads north into Princeton- a small town founded on gold, yet everything looks cheap and out of place. Nice people though.
I've since made it to Keremeos (i'm not trying to brag or anything but, about 46 miles in 2 days with a 27 kilo pack through a mountain range.........yea, that's right!) and so far, i've got blisters on the bottom of my feet which are killing me, my right knee is screwed as usual, my back is holding up ok though, but my shoulders are going to need some serious attention soon! My hope is to make it through to a place called Midway within the next 5 days- sticking close to highway 3 where i can rejoin the trans-canada trail. The weather is improving a hell of a lot!! This week is aparently going to average 15 degrees, which considering i've been waking up in a tent to -15 so far is a great impovement!
Also, although i'm very greatfull- can people please stop offering me lifts! sooner or later i'm going to cave in and say yes!! please remember that this is for charity so i can't cheat but, when you pull over and offer i am SOOOO damn tired that i'm liable to say something stupid like "yea sure-east coast please!". Thankyou all the same!!!
